Hi Liz : ) I still say your boy is the cutest thing I have ever seen!
Like any piece of equipment, the positive or negative all depends on the humanity behind it. I have used most forms of bits and bridles, bosals, bitless, halter and nothing at all with varying degrees of effect and joy. While each horse has his/her own specific pieces of preference, I insist on all my horses being bit-trained, just in case, as I cannot guarantee that I will own them forever and cannot predict what the next owner will want or do. That said, I have always preferred to use the least amount of equipment necessary to meet the needs of the horse and management rules. I will go to my grave believing that less is more, more often than not.
Do what feels right and safest for you and your boy. Go bitless if competition no longer holds the same interest for you and ‘specially if your horse goes easiest that way. Enjoy, Liz, Life is too short and Spring is coming…..that’s the rumour, anyway : )
Sure there's right and wrong but mostly there's just a whole lotta different.
