Joe-joe and drsgdiva, thanks so much for your inputs! My gelding lives outside 24/7, and doesn’t have a run-in, so fans and screens are unfortunately not an option. I did make up an ointment (per drsgdiva’s suggestion) and put it in his ears, and also cut the eyes out of a fly mask and put it on him (lots of patience and a twitch), and he’s already doing a lot better. Once he realized that I was trying to help him, not hurt him (geldings, right? Kind of stupid…), he’s been much better about me cleaning out his ears and re-applying, and he even left his “fly hat” on. I truly did not expect him to start healing this fast, so thanks!
