My 31 year old mare fractured her pelvis 18 years ago. It was raining and she was running down a hill. She slipped and fell fracturing her pelvis. Within an hour, she was sweating profusely and it was obvious that she was in a lot of pain. Called Vet and he did a rectal exam and determined that she fractured her pelvis. She was on stall rest for a year and it healed. We were able to ride her for a few years but as she got older, scar tissue built up and she got weak in her hind end. A few years ago, we had to stop trimming her feet because she cannot stand on 3 legs. However, she is not in pain and is very happy and can still run and buck out in pasture.
