the only thing I can tell you is that if you want to clear out any scruff left from dirt, conditioners, silicone detanglers ect that might cause itching and then rubbing is to rinse the tail in a white vinegar solution. It really gets the area squeaky clean. Others have told me that they then rinse the area with listerine and it stops the itch and thus the rubbing. Will keep you posted if I learn anything else. My horse is not rubbing so I assume it does not itch. The hair just falls out at the root. (I tried the listerine- put it in a spray bottle- it did not stop the hair from falling out)
