Wow, thank you all so much for the responses! I didn’t realize grain made such a big difference in their diet. I don’t think he’s a hard keeper anymore… My BO has generously started giving him a LOT of hay, and he’s putting on weight and muscle quite nicely, and his ribs are barely visible anymore, where before they were quite prominent, same with his haunches. So for now I think I’m just going to let him keep at his free choice of hay and see how he does. And, he’s been worked a lot more this week, and he’s still gaining so yeah. Thank you all SO much for the information, I really appreciate it, at least now I know what to do if I do ever end up with a hard keeper, and what to do with feeding in general!
