Tate is a 2010 Thoroughbred gelding by Devil His Due out of a Fusaichi Pegasus mare. Tate had one dismal performance on the track as a two year old before he was recruited to be an event prospect because of his fantastic mind and balanced way of going.

Tate, also affectionately known as “Tater Tot”, has gained a wide variety of life experiences since leaving the track. Tate has been introduced to lower level dressage, started over fences, schooled cross-country, been ridden western, galloped in company with young race horses, starred in a lesson program, and covered extensive miles on the trails alone and in groups all with a remarkably willing attitude and quiet mind. Tate craves variety and loves tackling new adventures and training challenges.

Tate is quiet and simple to ride on the flat and always seeks to please his rider. He is a compact ride and naturally goes on the bit. He has been used in lessons ranging from kids just starting over cross-rails, to intermediate riders learning to bring young horses along, to adult amateurs. While still green over fences, Tate has an uncanny ability for his age and stage in training to keep the same rhythm and balance to and away from fences.

Tate recently attended his first mini-trial schooling day and behaved as though he was a seasoned veteran of eventing, handling all the commotion and busyness with a workman-like attitude. Tate showed that he was remarkably brave and simple to ride on cross-country; he even schooled the training level drop into water without a moment’s hesitation.

Tate shows potential to be brought along in a wide variety of disciplines. He would love to be somebody’s only horse so he can soak up all the attention. Tate has amassed a fan following due to his larger than life personality and cool, calm, and collected attitude. If you spend a few minutes with Tate, you will be forced to ponder the genetic mystery of how the personality of a Golden Retriever was intertwined with the outward appearance and athleticism of the American Thoroughbred. Stating that Tate is people-oriented and has an “in your pocket” personality would be an understatement.

Tate cross-ties, stands for the farrier, clips, bathes, and trailers well. Tate is an easy keeper and is pleasant to be around in the barn. Tate is only offered for sale due to his owner starting a new career and needing to downsize the herd. I cannot say enough good things about this horse!

Tate is in part-time training with a dressage rider and will also continue to be trained over fences until sold.
