My two year old just got blood work done, and it came back that he had anemia. The reason we drew blood was because he had drainage coming from his nose. I had him on antibiotics to clear the draining and I power packed him. His diet is about a pound of southern state solution twice a day, and a lunch of alfalfa, alfalfa cubes, a pound of triple crown complete, 2oz rice bran oil and smart omega. He has free choice teff hay. I want to add something to help with the anemia,I just have been getting mixed suggestions. Any suggestions?

I hear you on the mixed suggestions, Katie, anemia in horses is a challenging topic for sure. While I don’t have any personal experience supporting a horse with this condition, I did find two really helpful pieces that our staff veterinarian, Dr. Gray, wrote on the subject. Here’s an overview of equine anemia: and here’s Ask the Vet blog that’s similar to your question: Hope that helps! – SmartPaker Sarah

Put him on Red Cell. My mare gets anemic often and Red Cell always helps her bounce back! She has PSSM so her immune system is funky and she gets sick easily.
