My 6 year old Lusitano cross gelding recently developed a bog spavin on his left hock after rough horseplay in the pasture…He now started on the Smartflex III Resiliance, but if anyone has experience with treating and/or living with bog spavin I am interested in learning more :)

Bog spavin isn’t a problem by itself, it’s the result of another problem. (Bog spavin is caused by excess joint fluid or joint tissue. That’s where the swelling comes from.) You said he had been playing in a pasture before he got it? He might have hurt himself while he was playing. You could drain the lump, but that would only give him temporary relief. If you don’t treat the underlying condition, it’ll swell back up within about a day or two. I would call a vet. ( :( sorry, nobody likes to hear ‘call the vet’!)
