I’m just getting back into showing after taking a MUCH needed break from the A circuit. Seems like fashion has totally changed! Tailored sportsman side zip breeches, hunter green jackets and black full velvet helmets bleached green or brown from the sun were what was on the “runway” in my day. Anyone have advise on the “IT” fashions? I’m looking at custom Samshield helmets and a custom Gran Prix Tech lite washable jacket. Any advise or recommendations?September 6, 2013 at 12:03 pmhorseygirlTopics Started: 0Replies Posted: 2
Are you riding primarily jumpers or do you plan to do hunters/eq too? If you plan to cross over, I would pick a more traditonal coat than (although they are available in stretch as well–RJ Classics has some nice ones, and not as pricey as Grand Prix). As far as helmets go, pick whichever fits best–they are most importantly an item of safety! Pikeur breeches are popular, although Tailored sportsman Euro Seat front zips are also seen.September 11, 2013 at 12:38 pmnative_catTopics Started: 0Replies Posted: 2
I would pick a more traditional coat regardless, just because it’ll be timeless. Grand Prix and RJ both make nice soft shells. Navy and black are the colors nowadays. Pikeur and TS are the main breeches around, although what’s most important is that they’re tan and not puke green. Front or side zips are fine, I personally prefer the look of front zip though. Belts are wide and fill out belt loops- generally around 1.5″-2″. In terms of helmets, GPAs, Samshield, CO, OneK, and KEP are the preferred A circuit brands. Black on black is the standard, though you sometime see brown/brown, black/grey or navy/navy. In terms of show shirts, the snap collars are very popular, however now the technical shirts with the venting (Essex Talent Yarn shirts) are incredibly popular. In terms of boots, zippers and leather sock look. They’re form fitting and well fitting. Dress boots (sans laces) are becoming a little more popular, particular in the eq and jumpers, though I wear a pair of Parlanti dress boots in the hunters.September 30, 2013 at 9:19 pmJonTopics Started: 0Replies Posted: 17

Native Cat thanks for the advice! I ended up with one of the tech late Grand Prix jackets, some of the snap tech collared shirts, a Samshield helmet, Der Dau boots and a fabulous new project baby horse 🙂 I couldn’t help myself and resist getting the side zipped tailoreds. Old habits die hard I guess!
