Perhaps a simple question, but how do you fellow equestrians feel about hacking out in the evening? Do you do it?

I am in Michigan, and we have been having a very hot summer, usually cooler in the evening, but best to be home and off the roads before dark.

^ Pretty much what G & S said. I’m in Virginia and this summer has been so hot and humid, I have been doing most of my riding around 6 or 7pm when it begins to cool down. For me it’s a very relaxing time to ride, but we do try to be home before dark

Ckarche – where in Virginia is it getting cool in the evenings? Not on the Eastern Shore! When it feels like 97 at 4 in the morning, you know the day will be killer!

It is never the horse's fault

Haha ok so maybe I should rephrase – It’s “cooler” not necessarily “cool”. I’m in Winchester, about an hour from DC and it’s been in the upper 90’s during the day, maybe lower 80’s in the evening but it makes a huge difference not having the sun directly above burning you to a crisp!

We are so flat, with so many agricultural fields, that shade is more of a myth than a reality. Not to mention the humidity and bugs.

I wish I could trade you some of my shade for some of your flat!! Lol. There is barely a flat spot on our entire property, luckily an arena is in the works so I won’t have to go visit the neighbors to get a good canter going lol!! The trees are lovely but I can tell when my mare is done for the day because she like to run me into the low branches….

Hacking out in the evening is not a bad idea at all but I personally find my horses to enjoy the morning better (especially for an actual workout too)
