I have a 15.3hh OTTB mare and am looking for a lightweight blanket and cooler. She is turned out full time and not clipped. For the blanket, she doesn’t need a heavy one for warmth, she just needs one that will protect her from rain and snow. She will only be hand grazed in the cooler after a hard workout. It is very important that the blanket is one that will stay on her while she is galloping around the field, but the cooler doesn’t necessarily have to be very durable. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good blanket or cooler?

I have a centaur turnout sheet for my big QH gelding. It has a mid-neck so it is up off his withers and doesn’t gape. He is hard on his blankets and this one is holding up fabulously. I found it on ebay for $90

I make my blankets for my girl out of fleece. I just take her measurements and then go buy some fleece from Wal-Mart and sew it together! I use fleece because it’s light weight (it doesn’t get very cold where I live but cold enough sometimes that I’ll need to blanket her.) and from what I’ve discovered it’s water proof too if you’ve never washed it. So if your willing to hand make a custom blanket I’d recommend it.
