So i started my horse on smartcalm yesterday and i am having a really hard time getting him to eat it. He has never been a picky eater but i guess i found something he doesn’t like. I tried giving it to him plain took one bite and didn’t want to touch it which sucks because he doesn’t need grain. I added a handful of grain again one bite and done, soaked it same thing. Finally i soaked it with a couple alfalfa cubes and he ate it but i still had to really encourage him to eat it. Is there any way i can make it so he will eat it no problem?

My mare has been on Cosequin for years and she will not eat it unless it is disguised in smashed banana or applesauce. I buy the individual lunch packs of applesauce and mix it in the feed room and add it to her grain – she thinks she’s getting a treat.

There are times my Gelding wont eat hay because he is picky, so sometimes I will mix some pure alfalfa in the hay. He loves the pure alfalfa and will eat it like candy if I would let him.
