Every spring I would put my horses out to pasture, usually I wait till Mother’s Day or June 1st depending on the weather. This year the weather been good, the grass has grown a foot high. Do I mow it down to 5-6″? Or let them graze it down. They only been on it for 15 to 30 minutes so far. I have one horse had laminitis. She is recovering. Her hoofs are almost full grown (a year growth) next month. No one was on pasture last year. To mow or not to mow?

    I would mow.
this way you can also see if there are weeds coming up.

In addition to the weeds Nina mentioned, mowing will help reduce evil bugs. I’d mow. My horses prefer the mowed sections to those which are somewhat overgrown, but they are nuts.

It is never the horse's fault
